Raid Cross is a role-playing simulation activity that helps students understand the basic rules of International Humanitarian Law (IHL) – and recognize that even war has limits. During the simulation, participants play the roles of civilians, soldiers, prisoners of war and humanitarian aid workers. By taking on different roles, participants see conflict situations through various key perspectives. Raid Cross can be conducted on school and college campuses and in community centers.
This guidebook was designed for the American Red Cross so that the local chapters could provide this guide to volunteers who want to help others understand IHL. The new American Red Cross Brand Guidelines were used as a framework for establishing the visual hierarchy of content within the book. During the design process, Blackbarn Media was responsible for sourcing and appropriately crediting photography as well as developing illustrations and printable resources for the simulation. Along with a review team, we proofread the content and checked for mechanical and style errors.
